I'd love to read it if I could get it a reasonable price - Amazon price bit steep at present for me. Can you buy it direct from palgrave? Is it in libraries?

Hi. Bernice! i've finished reading your book today. i've got more insights and understanding about only-child. thank you very much! my interest in understanding more about only-child was aroused by your book and my personal experience of interacting with my friends who are adult only-child. besides of this internet message board, i've found another website doing similar things: http://onlychildproject.com Their opinions on only-child is somehow different than those I read in your book. (eg. http://onlychildproject.com/individualism-and-the-only-child/) The characteristics of only-child is not aligned in different research and literature that I'm quite confused now about what the main characteristics of only-child are. besides, i'm a first year master of counseling student in hk now. i would like to know more about what counselor can do and which counseling therapy is appropriate in dealing with the adult only-child client who are facing enmeshed family relationship which caused them lost their self-identity. Thank you very much and I appreciate a lot of your contribution in researching and caring on only-child. Cheers, Step*

Hi Bernice, That one is next on my list! I will let you know my thoughts. As of now, I have read "The Only Child_Being One, Loving One, and Raising One", as well as "Only Child_How to Survive Being One". Out of those two, I would say the second one by Jill and David was the most helpful. It was also pretty dead on for my life. Of course not every comment was, but most applied in some way if not greatly. I really loved the constant quotes used from interviewees. It was so great to hear people that had the same feelings and thoughts as I. I have also read some on adoption as I am also adopted. However, I haven't found one I like. They have seemed thus far more or less a pity party for the adopted. I think there are wounds created there at birth, and that the whole experience can seep through ones subconsciousness down the road. However, I wouldn't call adoption a bad thing as one of the books did. I bring it up because I do find there are typical only child feelings that get a sort of 'X' factor spin when you add adoption to the equation. I think some emotional issues are lessened whilst others are increased. Pretty interesting how it is all combined at the end of the day. Like I said, I'll let you know on the book as soon as I have finished it a couple of times. Thanks!

Sorry, I promise that I broke that up in to paragraphs. I guess the site format doesn't let you do that. lol

Hi

Has anyone actually  managed to get a copy of the book?  As someone mentioned it is available on Amazon at a very high price.  I've tried my library but they haven't got it.

Hi Tilly, you should be able to order it from a library. The reason its a hardback is that it was mostly published for the Library market whcih I think is why the price has not gone down. However I am looking into doing a less academic book as an e-copy.

Hi Bernice

Thanks for your reply.  I have tried ordering it from my library, which presumably covers the whole area, but no luck, so I would be interested if you do an e-copy.

Thanks.

Tilly

Bernice- I have read your book and it has brought so much clarity to my life! The issues an 'only' has is really overlooked and in my estimation, totally marginalized and not validated. These things are real!
